Journey into Self Publishing Part 2

Well, today I am at 107,000 words of my first fantasy novel. Maybe five more chapters to go. I have been dabbling with windows movie maker and began piecing a book trailer together. It's a pretty easy program to use if you're content with the basics.

Also, I have been photoshopping a book cover and am almost done with that.

I'm still months away before I put my book out there, so my website will continue to evolve in increments. Please bear with me.

Remember, I am a total newbie when it comes to everything: writing, creating cover art, creating a book trailer, blogging, twitter (no account yet), facebook (no account yet), Kindle (don't even own one yet), Nook (not yet), self publishing (zero experience), etc, etc.

My purpose for this blog is to detail everything that I do in the entire process with the hopes that maybe, someone out there, will see it and add to it. I'm not just doing this for me, not by a long shot.
Hopefully this blog will, in time, provide a sort of guideline for others out there with zero experience.

I realize there's not much to comment on or add to at this point, but maybe someday someone will stumble on this blog and comment.

Thanks for reading this.

Journey Into Self Publishing Part 1

Today I hit a milestone--100,000 words!

I'm writing at a snail's pace of 4000 words per week and this has been a long time in the making. Everyday for six months, sitting at this laptop, has taken its toll. Let me tell you, this does not come easy for me. I love to write, but I just wish it would come easier.

Anyway, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There's still a bit more story to tell, but the first draft is less than two months from being complete. Then comes the rewrites. I have decided to do two complete rewrites to further strengthen and unify my story.

My goal is to unleash my first novel on the world (will anyone even notice?) by the end of the year. I'm already planning the cover art , book trailer, and social media blitz. This really is a fun little project, it occupies my down time quite nicely.

So, I'm not ready to go into more detail about the actual novel . . . yet. Stay tuned for further, more frequent updates.

First Post

This blog will chronicle my journey into the realm of self publishing. As of right now, I have written 98,922 words of my very first novel--a fantasy adventure. I predict the story can be told in less than 120,000 words, so, at my present pace, I guess another six or seven weeks of writing.

I have made the decision (for now) to forgo the traditional route of publishing by not seeking out an agent, and instead, to throw my hat into the self publishing arena.

I'm going to really give it my all and see what happens. I'm a very cynical guy (it's gone beyond the glass being half empty . . .there is no glass to begin with . . . It's shattered) and I see it being a real uphill, near impossible, battle. It seems everyone and their grandmother has a self published book on the Kindle or the Nook these days. I really don't see how I can stand out among hundreds of thousands of other fish in the sea. But we'll see.

For now, I'll just keep writing and updating this blog on a weekly basis. Also, I'll try to view the glass as half full and keep a positive attitude.

So, if there is anyone out there interested in epic fantasy adventure novels, I sure hope you follow me on my adventure and see how it plays out. One thing is for sure, I won't make it boring for you.

Thanks for your time,
Jason Lee
